Our “Why”

Founder/CEO Megan Thur
Megan founded Abby’s Barkery in 2021 after health issues with her pup, Abby. She began her research on pup nutrition in 2018 and compounded clean recipes along with safe food processing techniques. She believes it’s not only the ingredients, but how the food is made in order to keep nutrients locked in. Abby’s Barkery is now a licensed animal feed manufacturer in Frisco, Texas! Her business has ultimately grown from the love that she had for her pup, Abby.
Megan’s focus has been within the community first hand by attending farmers markets, large events, shelter volunteering, and animal rescue collaboration. As she grows her business, she hopes she will bring her brand nation wide to all health conscious pet owners.“No pet owner (dog mom or dad) should ever question whether the food they are feeding their pups could be making them sick, or shortening their lifespan. Our pups are our kids and they deserve the best we can give them. They deserve a longer life than what has been ‘the average’ due to toxins, chemicals and cancer causing food processing.”

Meet Chance
Chance was rescued from a troubled home and put into the care of the fantastic rescue, Cody’s Friends Rescue, in Texas. The rescue then placed him with an incredible foster family. Chance was so young at the time that he required around the clock care with bottle feeding. We finally found this sweet pup and adopted him at just 6 weeks old.
We are so blessed to have our sweet “Chancie!” He is now thriving with the typical energy of a 1 year old pup who adores his older brother, Luck. He doesn’t even mind sharing all the treats! -
Meet Luck
Luck was rescued from Shutt'er Down Ranch and later adopted by us! It's actually quite the "love at first sight" story. It was meant to be! Luck is our 100 lb lap dog and taste tester. Luck's favorite treat flavor is PB & Pumpkin and his favorite chew is a beef cheek roll. Luck is all about meeting new people. He's quite the social butterfly. If you catch us at the dog park, Luck will be leading the pack with a fun game of chase!

Our Angel, Abby
Love for Abby was definitely the start for Abby’s Barkery!
Abby was loving, protective, full of spunky energy, goofy, and happy! Unfortunately, health issues kept coming to the surface.
Abby’s first benign mass removal happened early in life. In fact, she had about 6 (benign) masses removed before she was 5 years old. She was taken to the vet regularly and everything was done to take the best care of her. This included buying the “expensive and veterinarian approved” dry dog foods.
After constant disappointment with her health, Megan started to look deeper into labels. The food & treat ingredients, side effects from “safe” flea and tick meds, unnecessary vaccinations, ect. The more that was searched, confidence faded in what Megan was told good for Abby.
Abby started having seizures. One veterinarian grew to five! Opinion after opinion trying to find answers with every single test given. The decision was then made to throw out all of Abby’s store bought food and treats, replacing them with homemade and researched recipes. It only took about a week to see a difference in Abby’s well being. While the seizures were still present, they were significantly less and her energy was amazing!
One year later, Megan finally had an answer when a mass was found on Abby’s spleen. The veterinarians suspected it was benign, but could be the cause of her health issues. In order to remove the mass, they would need to remove the spleen. Megan was told it was a “life saving” surgery for Abby’s wellbeing.
Abby recovered well from surgery in 2018 and was back to her spunky self! A week later, the news that the mass was indeed cancerous and had spread throughout her body. She was given 2 weeks to live.
The feeling of defeat is heavy!
They did not give up. Abby had many gourmet meals and treats!..Her own 5 star restaurant! Abby lived another 11 months happy and full of energy. The vets were stunned! The turn around from the diet alone, was jaw dropping. Unfortunately, the knowledge did not come soon enough to prevent the damage already done to Abby’s body. This is the importance of nutrition and pup health.
Sweet Abby, this is for you and because you! You were beyond loved! Our only intent is to spread more love and awareness, so we can ALL spend as much time with our pups as possible!
